Windows ME or 2000 Setup Instructions:

Windows operating systems have a feature called Dial-Up Networking, which allows you to establish a modem connection with an Internet Service Provider. Once the connection is established, you can use just about any standard Internet software, whether its a browser, email program, game, chat client, or something else. If you have any problems or questions with your Internet setup you can call our friendly and efficient technical support staff at (915) 832-0100.

1.  Before you get started, make sure an available telephone line is connected to your computer via the line in slot on the back of your modem. Next, check to see if you have Dial-Up Networking installed.

·         Click on Start, Settings, and Control Panel.

·         Click on Add/Remove Programs. Click on the “Windows Setup” tab.

·         Double-click on “Communications”. You should see Dial-Up Networking listed. If it is not checked, check it. (Do not change any other settings; it’s OK if they don’t match what we show here.)

·         Click OK until you are back to the Control Panel.

·         If Dial-Up Networking was not already installed, Windows will copy some files from your C: drive or Windows CD.

2.  Add a Dial-Up Networking entry for Huntleigh Internet.

·         Enter the Control Panel and select the "Dial-up Networking" icon.

·         Double-click the “Dial-Up Networking” icon to open it.

·         If this is the first time that Dial-Up Networking has been opened, a Windows wizard will open on it’s own. If this is not the first time it has been opened, double click on the icon called “Make New Connection”.

·         Enter “htg” as the name of the computer you are dialing and click on Next.

·         Type in 865-9998 for El Paso and 635-4013 for Las Cruces and click on Next.

·          Click Finish.

3.  Configure the settings for Huntleigh Internet.

·          Right-click on the Huntleigh icon and click on Properties. This opens up a property window for Huntleigh Internet.

·          Click on the tab labeled Server Type.

·          The type of Dial-Up Server is “PPP; Windows 95; Windows NT 3.5, Internet”

·          Under Advanced Settings “Enable software compression” should be the only box checked.

·          Under Allowed Network Protocols “TCP/IP” should be the only box checked.

·          Click on the button labeled TCP/IP Properties.

·          “Server assigned IP address” should be checked.

·          “Specify name server addresses” should be checked.

·         In the Primary DNS field enter 209.136.26.5

·         For Secondary DNS field enter 209.136.26.12

·         Primary and Secondary WINS are not used and should be left as 0.0.0.0.

·         Both options at the bottom (header compression and default gateway) should be checked. Click OK three times.

4.  Reboot and try it out.

·         Start your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape) and the Dial-Up Networking should automatically kick in and ask for your username and password.

·         Type in your username and password (use lowercase letters) and click on the connect button. You are now ready to surf the net! (Please remember to disconnect your internet connection when you are finished with your session, or will be away from your computer for more than 5 min.)
